P&G Unravels Polymers through Measurement Science at SciX 2025
November 24, 2025
In October 2025, P&G proudly served as a corporate sponsor for the SciX Conference presented by the Federation of Analytical Chemistry & Spectroscopy Societies (FACSS). Held in Covington, KY, this international technical conference brought together nonprofit scientific and educational organizations concerned with the development of chemical analysis and analytical problem solving.
This year’s event attracted approximately 835 scientists from around the globe, eager to share their latest research and breakthroughs across various disciplines. P&G led numerous activities throughout the week, demonstrating our expertise in the field of analytical sciences and commitment to enabling the next generation of analytical leaders.
Sharing Innovative Approaches
P&G sponsored a thought-provoking technical session titled “Unraveling Polymers: Designing for Sustainable Environmental Futures.” This session featured presentations from industry leaders, including Jackie Thomas, PhD, Principal Scientist at P&G, which discussed innovative approaches to designing and synthesizing sustainable polymers. Topics included analytical methods for characterizing polymer properties, enhancing manufacturing processes, and understanding the environmental impact of recycled plastics—areas that are increasingly vital to advancing our sustainable product innovations.

Fostering the Next Generation
Ravi Ranatunga, PhD, Director of Corporate R&D and Pete Ellingson, PhD, Open Innovation Manager of Connect + Develop and Corporate R&D, presented a workshop for early-career scientists and students. In this session, the P&G experts provided invaluable insights into the job search process for PhD internships and full-time roles post-graduation. Attendees delved into the key skills and qualities employers value, received practical guidance on crafting standout resumes and compelling research summaries, and learned effective strategies for navigating the interview process with confidence.
P&G also continued its multi-year commitment to fostering the next generation of scientists by sponsoring a student poster contest. Open to participating student members of the Society for Applied Spectroscopy (SAS), this contest recognized four outstanding student posters for their technical achievements and effective communication. Awardees received a one-year SAS membership, a commemorative plaque, and a prestigious international award recognizing their achievements and strengthening their professional standing.ž
Presenting Cutting-Edge Research
Eleven P&G scientists presented groundbreaking research through oral and poster sessions, many emphasizing how innovation is advancing the company’s 2030 sustainability goals. Their work highlighted P&G’s focus on superior product performance with reduced environmental impact, including zero manufacturing waste to landfills, developing fully recyclable or reusable packaging, and delivering a 50% reduction in the use of virgin plastics.
P&G’s active participation in the SciX Conference highlighted our unwavering commitment to scientific innovation, talent development, and sustainability efforts. P&G continues to raise the bar for innovation and environmental responsibility—driving meaningful change and advancing our mission to make the world a better place for future generations.
